In 2022/23 there was a return to pre-pandemic standards for GCSEs, with protection built into the grading process to recognise the disruption that students have faced. For VTQs that are taken alongside, or instead, of GCSEs, there was also a return to pre-pandemic standards in 2022/23.
Given the impact of the pandemic on school and college performance data, the Government advise that direct comparisons should not be made between the performance data for one school or college and another, or to data from previous years.
